Why do you care about the environment?

Growing up poor in a small town in southeastern Minnesota, I was surrounded by the stunning landscape created by the blufflands and the Mississippi. That natural environment was beautiful and productive, and also visible and accessible to me and to everyone in my community, regardless of who they were or the resources that they had. While it took me many years to realize it, being in that amazing place made me feel proud and part of something bigger than my own experience. It instilled in me a commitment to protecting the environments that enrich all of us with their beauty, their natural resources, their ecosystem services, and more.
