What does “the environment” mean to you?

I’m a fisheries biologist. I joke that my job is what people do on the weekend – if people spent their weekends figuring out how to sustainably harvest our fish stocks. The internet defines “the environment” as the “natural world, as a whole or in a particular geographical area, especially as affected by human activity.” But my definition includes humans. We are not separate from the natural world; we’re as much a part of it as a pussy-willow or a hurricane.
